Blanket Work From Home(WFH) Has Some Severe Issues
“Work From Home (WFH) has created an issue with businesses that need to focus on productivity. If in the interview process you select to ask about WFH, you risk being dropped from the selection process.” Russell Bode – Director of Innovation – Inzenius
Why are some businesses discrediting WFH? Here is my top 5 thoughts on why
- The business success is dependent on teams working together to deliver quality service
- Team members benefit by direct interface to peer workers for better continuous learning
- Better problem-solving with peer- to-peer dynamic access and support
- Improved dynamics from face-to-face team activities and culture enhancement
- Innovation is better from multiple team members’ deliberation and involvement
Exception for WFH
Of course, some roles cannot be performed from home, such as Nurses and Doctors. Hospitality, building, to name a few.
- WFH should be a tool for those who really need to, not just those who want to WFH. Examples could include:
- New mothers when their children are preschool
- May deliver better parenting
- Save on child care resources and costs
- New mothers when their children are preschool

- It should be the business decision to offer, for
- Out of office service /representation role
- Where an office is needed at remote locations
- On-call times
- Where the employee is not a critical team support for in-office workers
- For access-required team members in the later years of their careers. On call

I am so against blanket WFH, as it is as much about enhancing team members’ skills & culture development, particularly those in the early years of their careers, as it is about productivity.

As AI replaces humans in knowledge acquisition and repetitive tasks, the need for human supervision and direct customer interaction will be more important than ever.
The human side of the enterprise must be enhanced and developed alongside the tech skills.
